Josh Sternfeld arrived at NEH in 2009, where he served as Senior Program Officer in the Division of Preservation and Access.  He coordinated the division’s Research and Development program, which he revamped in 2014, and he has played a key role in the division’s efforts to address the urgent needs of audio/visual preservation.  Most recently, he served as Coordinator of the NEH symposium Play/back devoted to promoting collaboration among leaders of audiovisual preservation, scholarship, and education. Josh is co-chair of NEH’s Digital Preservation Task Force, which he helped found in 2011 in order to coordinate development of an agency-wide digital preservation policy. Josh co-chaired the Digital Sustainability Workshop Series, a professional development program for NEH staff on digital preservation practices and trends.

Prior to his arrival at the Endowment, Josh was Assistant Director and Postdoctoral Scholar for the UCLA Center for Information as Evidence and Information Studies Department. He holds a B.A. in History from Princeton University and a Ph.D. in European History from UCLA. His publications have appeared in American Historical Review, American Archivist, the Journal of Digital Humanities, and elsewhere.
