In preparation for the Semiquincentennial, the Arizona America250 Commission is using an NEH Celebrate America! grant to bring exhibitions and programs focusing on Arizona’s past, present, and future to communities across the state’s 15 counties through the “Road to 250: Arizona Traveling Museum” project.
Throughout February, March, and April of 2026 a retrofitted tractor-trailer will tour the state as a mobile museum featuring digital and physical exhibits, including a 2300-lb replica Liberty Bell from the Arizona State Capitol. Panel exhibits in the traveling museum present prominent objects from American history, including George Washington’s spurs from Valley Forge, a set of drums from the Jazz Age, and a GI helmet from D-Day, alongside historical artifacts and artwork from Arizona museums and archives.
The traveling museum is scheduled to stop at more than 30 sites in the state, including at schools, museums, parks, and community centers. The commission also works in partnership with the Arizona Department of Education to provide online content to schools outside the tour route and classroom toolkits designed to further understanding of the history of Arizona and the United States.
