Augmented Reality on the Liberty Trail

When the American Revolution began, many of the battles were concentrated in the northern colonies. By 1778, the British forces realized that much of the fighting was resulting in a stalemate and that they needed a new strategy. With the capture of Savannah and the failed American siege, the British decided to lean on Loyalist support in the South and begin a southern campaign. In 1780, British troops captured the city of Charleston and blazed a trail of war destruction through the Carolinas and other locations in the South, now known as the Liberty Trail.
To commemorate America’s 250th anniversary, the American Battlefield Trust is expanding their Liberty Trail North Carolina app to include augmented reality (AR) experiences with the support of a NEH Celebrate America! grant. This expansion will allow users to become fully immersed in four additional battlefield sites in North Carolina: Halifax Courthouse, Overmountain March Camp, and Wilmington Riverwalk.
The Liberty Trail AR app is available to download at the App Store and Google Play.
