National Humanities Medal
The National Humanities Medal, inaugurated in 1997, honors individuals or groups whose work has deepened the nation's understanding of the humanities and broadened our citizens' engagement with history, literature, languages, philosophy, and other humanities subjects. Up to 12 medals can be awarded each year.

NEH welcomes nominations for individuals and organizations whose activities, contributions, and achievements have significantly enriched the educational, intellectual, and cultural life of the nation. To nominate an individual or organization, please use the online nomination form below. Please note that once a nomination is submitted, it will remain active for an additional two years.
NEH will accept nominations until close of business Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
