Through the Humanities Open Book program, Johns Hopkins University Press digitized and created freely-accessible ebooks for 200 classic humanities texts from its catalog in the areas of American history, European history, literary criticism, and philosophy. These books are among those available as open access publications on Project MUSE.
Jointly sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Humanities Open Book Program has made outstanding out-of-print humanities books available to a wide audience. By taking advantage of low-cost “ebook” technology, the program has allowed teachers, students, scholars, and the public to read humanities books that have long been out of print.
