Timothy Greenfield-Sanders talks about directing Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am Documentary
Toni Morrison is the subject of a new documentary that premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival. The celebrated Nobel Prize and Pulitzer prize winning author is featured in the movie, “Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am.”
Morrison was given the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1993. She received the federal government’s highest honor in 1996, when the National Endowment for the Humanities chose her for the Jefferson Lecture. Toni Morrison was also honored that year with the National Book Foundations Medal of Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. Morrison wrote the libretto for the opera, Margaret Garner that was commissioned and first performed in 2005.
