Luddy receives grant to 3D digitize Revolutionary War artifacts

The Luddy School and its Virtual World Heritage Lab, led by informatics professor Gabriele Guidi, is part of a four-partner consortium that has received a National Endowment for Humanities grant for 3D digitization of selected Revolutionary War artifacts. It ties into the U.S.’ 250th anniversary.

The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded a three-year grant to a consortium of four partners, led by Louisville’s Frazier History Museum and including the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, for 3D digitization of selected Revolutionary War artifacts. Total funding for the project, “A New Online Archive for the Study of the American Revolution,” is $749,000. Luddy’s share is $200,000.

Gabriele Guidi, professor of informatics and Virtual Heritage Track director, said the grant ties into the 250th anniversary of the United States. He said artifacts are held at the Frazier History Museum and the Sons of the American Revolution Museum.
