Biography

Before joining NEH, Jean Wortman was assistant director of the Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience at Washington College, where she taught in the first year seminar program, engaged students and the community in public history projects, and coordinated student internships. Her experience in public humanities includes eight years as the program officer at Maryland Humanities and as a museum educator in institutions in New York, Tennessee, and Maryland. Wortman holds an MA in museum studies from the Cooperstown Graduate Program, a Master of Liberal Arts from Johns Hopkins University, and a bachelor’s degree from Lafayette College.
