The NEH library holds reference collections (both digital and physical) for the use of NEH staff. It also provides interlibrary loan and other library functions, primarily to NEH staff members. The library also has an Institutional Repository (IR) that is used to hold digitized archival materials created by NEH staff. This IR has both public and agency-facing interfaces. The Librarian also serves as the NEH’s Federal Agency Records Officer.
Interns will work on assignments consistent with the work and mission of the Library, as well as the Agency. Duties will include assisting with organizing, preserving, uploading and enhancing access to the depository collection of selected NEH-funded grant products, publications and documents of enduring value. In addition to these tasks, interns will be assigned projects involving sorting and scanning documents for the IR as well as processing material for transfer to the National Archives Records Administration (NARA).
We prefer interns with experience working in archives, libraries, and/or museums as well as familiarity with: performing digitization functions; using electronic digital resources; working with institutional repository software (such as DSpace, CONTENTDM or Fedora); creating metadata; classifying records and archival materials; and delivering basic library services (such as circulation, interlibrary loan, shelving, etc.). Interns must be self-directed, able to complete tasks in a timely manner, and pay close attention to detail.
If you have any questions, please contact the NEH Internship Coordinator at 202 606-8317 or @email. We look forward to hearing from you.
