Understanding Cuba through Film: Iroko Nuevo and Short Films

December 16, 2016

“Understanding Cuba Through Film” explores essential aspects of socialist Cuban society through a monthly series of films and talks. A half-hour program of evocative ethnographic short films opens a window into the unique world of Afro-Cuban folklore and traditions, illuminated by a live and lively performance led by Miguel Periche, from Holguín, Cuba, and Iroko Nuevo, a 13-member ensemble performing and teaching folkloric dance and music infused with chants and flavor.

Funded project of the Vermont Humanities Council.  The Vermont Humanities Council is a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
