WAR WORDS WISDOM: Drum-Taps

September 26, 2015

Civil War Soldier Stories.  NYU Professor Karen Karbiener presents the tragic history of a Civil War soldier whose life lay in Whitman's hands, during his days as a volunteer nurse. Unpublished photos and war records will be presented courtesy of the living relatives of Private Erastus Haskell (1844-1863).  Brian Matthew Jordan, PhD, reads from his book, Marching Home: Union Veterans and Their Unending Civil War (2015) based on soldiers' words extracted from letters, recollections and reflections. Community Readers read from Walt Whitman's Drum Taps, his collection of poems about the Civil War.

Funded project of the New York Humanities Council.  The New York Humanities Council is a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
