Caring for Foreign Bodies, the Role of Healthcare in the Transformation of Aliens into Americans

Talk by Dr. Alan M. Kraut, American University, to be held in association with the exhibit Port of Entry to a Continent: Hoboken and the Federal Immigration Process, 1892-1924.

Alan M. Kraut is University Professor of History and an affiliate faculty member of the School of International Service. He is also a Non-resident Fellow of the Migration Policy Institute. Currently, he is the President of the Organization of American Historians, the largest professional organization of American historians. He specializes in U.S. immigration and ethnic history, the history of medicine in the U.S. and the American Civil War. He co-directs AU's Civil War Institute. He is the prize-winning author or editor of nine books.

A grant program administered by New Jersey Council for the Humanities.  The NJCH is a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities and serves as a catalyst for public humanities programs providing financial support for other nonprofit organizations’ special projects.
