Humanities magazine uses the In Focus section to highlight the leaders of our network of humanities councils. The essays allow us and Humanities readers to get to know more about a council's executive director, while also drawing attention to the wonderful programs that come out of all the councils.
Learn which former executive director mobilized an effort following destructive tornadoes to restock humanities collections in school and local libraries. And find out which current director has a nearly encyclopedic knowledge of his state, to go along with the highly successful online state encyclopedia launched by his council. (Bob Stewart and Jamil Zainaldin)
Other fascinating tidbits can also be found, including the current director who once kept aquaria filled with pet lizards and insects; and the director who attended the high school that served as the inspiration for the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High. (Sara Ogger and Ralph Lewin)
