Challenging the Exclusive Past: Relevancy, Inclusion, and Diversity' working group.

Our group builds upon the work of a 2016 NCPH working group of state humanities councils, the NEH, and other granting organizations and professional associations, that explored how organizations that support the public preservation, interpretation, and telling of history, best assist communities to assert their right to tell their own histories.  The objective of the 2016 FSHC conference working group is to explore this challenge through the lens of relevancy, inclusivity, and diversity.  Each case statement outlines the author's individual or programmatic experience and through our work we hope to learn effective communication and outreach strategies to draw new communities and voices into the field, to partner with new audiences to shape a deeper understanding of history from multiple perspectives, and be able to respond to needs "on the ground," share authority, and shape organizational programs and requirements.
