The 2012 NEH Summer Institute for College and University Faculty, "Investigating Consciousness: Buddhist and Contemporary Philosophical Perspectives," focuses on the convergence of western traditions in philosophy and Buddhist approaches in the field of philosophy of mind. It is held at the College of Charleston in South Carolina.
Led by directors Christian Coseru, Jay Garfield, and Evan Thompson, the institute aims to forge new paths in philosophy. It provides a forum for disciplinary, cross-cultural, and historical studies of human consciousness, and the careful analysis of ideas, regardless of their source, by philosophers with differing training and orientations. The resulting intellectual stimulation leads participating faculty to fresh research projects and challenging new materials for teaching today’s undergraduates.
