A screening of the NEH-funded documentary about Richard and Mildred Loving, whose successful challenge of a Virginia law barring interracial marriage changed history, provides the centerpiece for a  panel discussion of civil rights law. The panel discussion featured filmmaker Nancy Buirski [2], NAACP [3] President and CEO Ben Jealous [4], Washington College of Law Professor Lia Epperson [5], and Phil Hirschkop, one of the lawyers who argued the case before the Supreme Court. NPR [6] legal affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg [7] moderated the discussion between the panelists and the student audience. Following the screening, the students attended a reception, which featured remarks from Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division Tom Perez [8].
