Each year, the Arizona Humanities Council [2] presents the Sharing Words, Changing Worlds [3] Lecture and Awards to celebrate the humanities in Arizona. This year's lecture and awards ceremony on April 28, 2013 will highlight the Arizona Humanities Council's 40th Anniversary (1973 - 2013) and include a special tribute to AHC's founding executive director Lorraine W. Frank. The event is an opportunity for community members to gather and enhance awareness of the humanities.

The Lorraine W. Frank Lecture [4] in the Humanities is presented annually to honor AHC's founding executive director, and to recognize significant partners and cumulative contributions made to AHC with awards given by AHC's Board of Directors. Lorraine Weiss Frank (1923-2005) oversaw the distribution of $3 million for cultural activities during her 16-year tenure, from 1973-1989, as executive director. The lecture was established in 1990 to honor Lorraine Frank upon her retirement in 1989.

This year's featured speaker is M. Zuhdi Jasser, M.D. Dr. Jasser is the Founder and President of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy (AIFD). A devout Muslim, Dr. Jasser founded AIFD in the wake of the 9/11 attacks on the United States as an effort to provide an American Muslim voice advocating for the preservation of the founding principles of the United States Constitution, liberty and freedom, and the separation of mosque and state.
