Wade in the Water: Songs and Stories of the Mississippi

May 16, 2012

As the Mississippi winds its way past New Orleans, American Routes is reminded of the power and place of these waterways in American culture.  First,  the source of the mighty river is traced to its headwaters in Minnesota. Then listen to stories of steamboat captains, riverboats and rural fishermen.  Tulane professor Ruichard Campanella talks about New Orleans' own relation to the river, plus tales from Captain Doc Hawley, Aaron Neville and Al Green.
