Crossing Cultures: the Art of Manga in Hawai'i

September 6, 2013October 2, 2013

Crossing Cultures is an exhibition supported by the Hawai’i Council for the Humanities that brings together seven Hawai‘i-produced manga and explores the varied cross-cultural sources that influenced the narratives and artistic styles of these works. Manga is a distinctive form of Japanese comics known for dynamic graphics and covering of a diverse range of topics. The artists and writers featured in this show have used manga to tell stories that examine the history and culture of Hawai‘i. Through this engaging format these tales have the potential to appeal to a younger generation and beyond.
