Celebrating the Wild Side of Florida: Portals into Nature, Culture, and Sense of Place

April 11, 2014

Celebrating the Wild Side of Florida: Portals into Nature, Culture, and Sense of Place.

Bill Belleville gives a compelling presentation on identifying our natural landscapes in Florida, and understanding how other writers and artists have been inspired by them over time. In doing so, Belleville also helps us understand the threats to these natural systems from Florida's unbridled sprawl. He uses vivid photographic images from above and below our magical springs, our characteristic 'scrub' and sandhill, and other habitats that have historically helped us acknowledge a 'sense of place'. Bill will read selections from some of his books, show images via PowerPoint, and will take questions from the audience.

Bill Belleville is an Florida-based author and documentary filmmaker specializing in nature, conservation, and "sense of place."
