War & Society Roundtable Discussion. The Mississippi Humanities Council has awarded a grant to the University of Southern Mississippi to expand its War & Society Roundtable to a wider community in Hattiesburg. The War & Society Roundtable is a joint initiative of USM and the Library of Hattiesburg, Petal and Forrest County. The Society meets on the second Tuesday of each month during the academic year. Each meeting focuses on a different book related to the history of war and society, which are made available to participants through the Library. Discussions are moderated by Society members or faculty members from the USM Department of History.
The Society will use the MHC grant to increase contact with and service to the surrounding community. The Society hopes to particularly promote the Roundtable among K-12 school teachers, with the aim that participation in the monthly meetings will provide inspiration for their classrooms and expand knowledge about the history of war and society among younger students.
Tonight's discussion is the final in the series.
Sponsored by University of Southern Mississippi and the Mississippi Humanities Council. The Mississippi Humanities Council is a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
