For scholarly perseverance and tireless research into election returns from the earliest decades of the American republic. On his own initiative, Lampi spent years visiting historical archives around the country in search of local and regional election returns showing how Americans voted between 1789 and 1825. Thus did he unite widely scattered data into one cohesive body of research. His singular undertaking has now resulted in the online database “A New Nation Votes,” a digitization project of the American Antiquarian Society and an information resource for all students of the Revolutionary era and early nineteenth-century America. This certificate commends Philip Lampi and thanks him for being a diligent seeker of American historical knowledge.
