Back on October 5, the NEH and Italy’s Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) held the first of two planned conferences to bring together U.S. and Italian digital humanities scholars. The first conference, "Using New Technologies to Explore Cultural Heritage," focused on the use of digital tools to preserve and study cultural heritage and took place Oct. 5, 2007, in Washington, D.C.
We had a lot of great speakers from the U.S. and Italy. You can now read transcripts and view the presentations online.

This is a reminder that the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) invite applications to a digital humanities grant competition sponsored by the two federal agencies. The grant program, "Advancing Knowledge: The IMLS/NEH Digital Partnership," seeks applications for projects that would explore new ways to share, examine, and interpret humanities collections in a digital environment and develop new uses and audiences for existing digital resources. Grants are intended to spur innovation and new collaborations; advance the role of cultural repositories in online teaching, learning, and research; and develop collaborative approaches involving the scholarly community and cultural reposito ...

If you are in London on January 21, please do attend the JISC/NEH event being held at King's College. We will be celebrating the launch of our new joint digitization initiative and we have some great speakers lined up, including Chairman Bruce Cole from the NEH, and JISC Executive Secretary Malcolm Read.

At the recent Fall 2007 CNI Task Force Meeting here in Washington, DC, I announced two new digital humanities grant programs. One is called Institutes for Advanced Topics in the Digital Humanities and the other is NEH Fellowships at Digital Humanities Centers.
